GOP Senator to Bring Back Trump’s Border Policy
(UnitedVoice.com) – President Joe Biden has created a border crisis that’s still raging nearly four months into his presidency. Hundreds of thousands of immigrants have poured across the border. The crisis started after the president did away with former President Donald Trump’s immigration restrictions, but one GOP lawmaker is hoping to bring those policies back.
On May 13, Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) introduced the Make the Migrant Protection Protocols Mandatory Act. The legislation would end the catch and release program, impose stricter asylum rules, and codify Trump’s policy to keep migrants in Mexico until their case goes to court in the US.
In a press release, the senator said Biden’s “failed immigration policies” have led to a crisis on the border. According to her, more than “half a million illegal aliens” have been arrested by Border Patrol since the president took office. Although the congresswoman introduced the legislation, it’s unlikely to go anywhere because Democrats are in charge of Congress. Republicans will need to take back the majority if they hope to get critical bills like this one passed.
