(TheFreedomFlag.com)- Dr. Anthony Fauci, one of the best-known members of President Donald Trump’s Coronavirus Task Force, said on Thursday that Americans should “do what they’re told” by health officials. He made the comments during a discussion at Washington National Cathedral, where he warned that the “independent spirit” of the United States may be a problem in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I was talking with my UK colleagues who are saying the UK is similar to where we are now, because each of our countries have that independent spirit,” he said. “I can understand that, but now is the time to do what you’re told.”
Fauci, while at the same time saying people need to do what they’re told, said that scientists are not authoritarian. The health official said it was a shame that science was “lumped into politics” and caused a lot of divisiveness.
Fauci appeared alongside Dr. Luciana Borio who was recently appointed by Joe Biden to his Coronavirus Task Force and who would serve as an advisor if Biden becomes president in January. National Institutes of Health Director Dr. Francis Collins also appeared at the discussion.
The comments come at a time when tensions are rising again over the prospects of new lockdowns. President Donald Trump promised not to shut down the national economy and instead focused on therapeutics while getting businesses reopened, but the prospects of a Biden presidency means businesses are worried about being forced to close again.
A top adviser for Joe Biden recently suggested shutting down the entirety of the national economy for six weeks to combat the spread of COVID-19.
One of Biden’s new coronavirus task force doctors floating the idea of a 4-6 week lockdown:

Dr Michael Osterholm, a member of Biden’s new COVID-19 advisory team, said that the federal government should cover the cost of lost wages for workers and small and medium-sized companies and simply place the country under a total lockdown.
The method, however, has been discouraged by the World Health Organization and has not worked in Europe. The United Kingdom, which shut down its economy for months earlier this year, is now in its second lockdown that is expected to end on December 2.
