(TheFreedomFlag.Com)- Dr. Anthony Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has called on China to immediately close the “wet markets” that were recently reopened in the country.
The markets, where wild, live animals are sold, are believed to be the first place the virus originated. It is theorized that the virus spread from bats and snakes being sold on the market which are used to make food, including “bat soup.”
Speaking to Fox and Friends this week, Fauci explained how perplexed he was that the markets have been reopened in China and that he believes they must be shut “right away.”
“It boggles my mind how when we have so many diseases that emanate out of that unusual human animal interface that we don’t just shut it down,” he said.
In the United States, markets like this would not be allowed, but in China, they provide locals with the ingredients they need to make staple dishes in Chinese cuisine. Health experts believe that the new coronavirus originated in a wet market in Wuhan in November last year. The world has seen other viruses come out of these wet markets, too, including the 2003 SARS outbreak.
In a wet market, it is not unusual to find live chickens, ferrets, dogs, bats, and cats being sold for food. The dirty conditions in the markets, combined with huge crowds of people, make it a perfect breeding ground for viruses which can sometimes jump between species.
While Western governments recognize the dangerous nature of these markets, the Chinese government doesn’t agree, and Dr. Fauci explained during the Fox segment that the White House has no authority to force China to close them.
“I don’t know what else has to happen to get us to appreciate that, and I think there are certain countries in which this is very common place,” Fauci said, striking a moderate tone and refusing to direct aim at one country alone.
“I would like to see the rest of the world really lean with a lot of pressure on those countries that have that, because what we’re going through right now is a direct result of that.”
