Boilermakers Union Speaks Out After Biden Lied, Claimed He Received Endorsement

( During a town hall event on ABC News on Thursday night, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden falsely claimed that he had received the endorsement of the boilermakers. He made the comment in response to a question about energy and fracking, following months of talk from the Biden campaign about ending fossil fuels and fracking entirely.

The Boilermakers Union Local 154 union leader hit out after the comment, explaining how the Democratic nominee was lying.

Union Business Manager John Hughes, who helps oversee the representation of workers across West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Ohio, said on Saturday that the Boilermakers do not endorse the Democratic presidential candidate.

“The other day I’m watching the debate and I see Joe Biden tell everybody that the Boilermakers endorsed him and that is not true,” he said. “And I would like somebody to tell me who – he said he talked to somebody – I’d like to know who he talked to in the Boilermakers because anybody I talk to did not endorse him. And I believe if you go onto our international website, we have not endorsed a candidate this round, did the International Boilermakers endorse a candidate last time.”

Hughes said that the Boilermakers did not endorse Joe Biden and Barack Obama last time around, specifically because of their energy policies.

Hughes, however, did in fact officially endorse President Donald Trump in September. While the international group may not have given an opinion, Hughes wrote a letter to the president in September outlining his local group’s support for the Trump campaign.

“On behalf of the Boilermakers Local 154, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania I am writing this letter to endorse your campaign for President of the United States of America,” Hughes said.

“It is with great honor that I write this letter to endorse your campaign as you run for re-election of the President of the United States. I am happy to support your administration as you have proven to be a true friend of the Boilermakers, and I wish you the best of luck in your campaign.

Does that sound like an endorsement for Joe Biden?

The Biden campaign has yet to publicly comment on the matter.
